How to Compare Crawl Space Quotes
By the CrawlQuote team · Updated 2026-08-01
The seven questions that expose the difference
Put every quote through the same checklist:
- Liner thickness and coverage — 6-mil dirt cover or 12-mil+ liner across ground, walls, and piers? These are different products.
- What's being removed — old barrier, fallen insulation, debris? Included or extra? How much?
- Seam and penetration sealing — taped and sealed to the standard, or draped and weighted?
- Dehumidification — included, excluded, or 'recommended later'? Is the unit sized to the space?
- Drainage — if you have water entry, does the quote address collection and discharge, or does it encapsulate over the problem?
- Measurement basis — measured area, or eyeballed? What happens if the real number differs?
- Change policy — what happens when something unexpected turns up onsite? In writing?
Red flags worth taking seriously
Prices that drop dramatically when you hesitate. Scare photos with no moisture readings. 'Today-only' discounts. A refusal to leave a written scope. None of these mean the work is unnecessary — they mean the price wasn't real to begin with.
How we make comparison easy
CrawlQuote publishes the pricebook: $4.00/sq ft for 12-mil encapsulation of ground, walls, and piers with a $3,995 minimum, defined multipliers for height and access (capped at 2.00× combined), and fixed catalog prices for every add-on. Your proposal itemizes all of it, states the ±10% measurement tolerance, and locks the pricebook version. Take it, hand it to a competitor, and make them match the scope line for line. We're comfortable with that comparison — that's the point.
